چکیده

Computational micromagnetics plays an important role in design and control of magnetostrictive actuators. A systematic approach to calculate magnetic dynamics and magnetostriction is presented. A finite difference method is developed to solve the coupled Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert(LLG) equation for dynamics of magnetization and a one dimensional elastic motion equation. The effective field in the LLG equation consists of the external field, the demagnetizing field, the exchange field, and the anisotropy field. A hierarchical algorithm using multipole approximation speeds up the evaluation of the demagnetizing field, reducing computational cost from O(N) to O(NlogN). A hybrid 3D/1D rod model is adopted to compute the magnetostriction: a 3D model is used in solving the LLG equation for the dynamics of magnetization; then assuming that the rod is along z-direction, we take all cells with same z-cordinate as a new cell. The values of the magnetization and the effective field of the new cell are obtained from averaging those of the original cells that the new cell contains. Each new cell is represented as a mass-spring in solving the motion equation. Numerical results include: 1. domain wall dynamics, including domain wall formation and motion; 2. effects of physical parameters, grid geometry, grid refinement and field step on H −M hysteresis curves; 3. magnetostriction curve.

Mesoscopic modeling for continuous spin lattice systems: Model problems and micromagnetics applications

In this paper we derive deterministic mesoscopic theories for model continuous spin lattice systems both at equilibrium and non-equilibrium in the presence of thermal fluctuations. The full magnetic Hamiltonian that includes singular integral (dipolar) interactions is also considered at equilibrium. The non-equilibrium microscopic models we consider are relaxation-type dynamics arising in kinet...

Variational Methods in the Study of Imaging, Micromagnetics, and Thin Films

Here, we will give a brief tour of the variational formulation of problems issuing from imaging, micromagnetics and membrane theories. These, and other physical applications, often involve energies of different dimensionality, from bulk to interfacial terms, multiple scales, higher order derivatives, and discontinuous underlying fields. They present new challenges for the Calculus of Variations...

Virtual Micromagnetics: A Framework for Accessible and Reproducible Micromagnetic Simulation

Computational micromagnetics requires numerical solution of partial differential equations to resolve complex interactions in magnetic nanomaterials. The Virtual Micromagnetics project described here provides virtual machine simulation environments to run open-source micromagnetic simulation packages [1]. These environments allow easy access to simulation packages that are often difficult to co...

Micromagnetics of submicron „110... Fe elements

The magnetization processes and the domain structure of epitaxial ~110! Fe submicron-sized elements are studied experimentally and with micromagnetic simulations. Magnetic force microscopy and Kerr magnetometry results are in good agreement with the simulations, thus allowing the development of a consistent picture of the micromagnetics of these systems. © 2000 American Institute of Physics. @S...

Effect of cell size in calculating frequencies of magnetic modes using micromagnetics: Special role of the uniform mode

Using the time evolution of the dynamic magnetization, we study the frequencies of spin excitations in small ferromagnetic bars with particular attention to the uniform mode. The calculation is done using micromagnetics, and the frequency of various modes is found as a function of the cell size used in the calculation. We find that the uniform mode and some standing spin-wave modes are relative...
